Year 4

Dear Year Four Parents and Students,

Firstly, we would like to congratulate all students for the completion of our first-ever schooling via remote learning. What an interesting term this has been. All students did exceptionally well when participating in Zoom sessions and completing online tasks. The year four students have definitely proven they are able to learn in any setting they find themselves in.

With only two weeks of the term remaining, students had a smooth transition back to on-site learning on June 9th. Everyone was excited to see one another and worked hard to complete their assessments in a very short time-frame!

Throughout term two we focused on non-fiction genres and learnt how to write an explanation piece. We examined the structure, key terms and features of explanation texts and by the end of term, the students were confident to write their own explanation pieces for their chosen topics.

In Maths, we revised written and mental strategies for subtraction. Students learnt about angles as a measurement of the degree of turn, and drew connections with angles and objects found at home. Learning about time during remote learning was engaging and challenging. The students learnt how to read an analogue clock to the minute. Once we returned to school, we focused on finding the area of 2D shapes and learnt how to convert square cm to square m. We loved the activity where we calculated the area of our names on 1cm grid paper.

Home learning definitely gave students an opportunity to move away from their devices and enjoy art activities, alongside mindfulness and relaxation. Year four did an exceptional job and certainly proved how creative and imaginative they are.

Term two was a very interesting but very productive term. We wish all our students a restful and safe term break. See you all in term three!

Kind Regards,
Mrs Ceren and Mrs Esra
